West End Deli

I shot the West End Deli as a homage to Thomas Connolly who is my next door neighbor at my studio. Thomas is a painter and has painted this deli a few times. Here is his view:

In 1924 the building was owned by a one Sidney P. Shwartz(that's the way it's spelled) and the deli portion was not there. Check out the Maine Historical Society's photograph of the building from 1924 here: 133 Spring Street, Portland, ME in 1924

By the time most of you get to see the West End Deli it will be gone as it is moving to Congress Street soon. It will be replaced by a dumpling shop and Miyake is reopening soon in it's old space to the right. Looked in the window the other day and it looks to have a sushi bar for 6/8 people and one table for another 6/8. There is also a new DINER sign at the front door.
